Giovanni Galbieri

Biography

He approached athletics after watching the 2003 World Cup on TV and decided to try it at the Bussolengo field (Verona), after practicing karate and football: at first as a long jumper, but as a cadet with the coach Roberto Troiani moved up to speed in 2008 with remarkable results, from the MPN under 16 of the 80 meters (8.92) to the Italian category title.

In 2009 at the World Championships in Bressanone he won a surprising bronze medal in the 100 meters and later wore the blue jersey in all the major youth events.

In 2013 he started training in Turin in Alessandro Nocera’s group and 2015 saw him again as a protagonist becoming the under 23 European champion of the 100 meters in Tallinn.

In June 2016 he was enlisted by the Air Force, coming from Atletica Riccardi Milano, then in the autumn of 2017 he returned to Bussolengo with Gianluca Zocca and in 2018 a parenthesis with Daniel Buttari, before starting again to be followed by Alessandro Nocera in October of that year.

After a series of injuries, he has been training in Formia since mid-September 2021 and in the 2022 indoor season he rose again to the fore running in 6.60 in the 60 meters.

A native of San Vito al Mantico, a hamlet of Bussolengo, he graduated from the sports high school in Verona. His other great passion is music: songwriter, guitarist, writes and composes songs, he has also released an album.
