Born on December 23, 2001, Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah has become an icon of Ghanaian athletics and one of Africa’s finest high jumpers, taking her country to unprecedented heights in the discipline.
An athlete at the University of Illinois coached by Petros Kyprianou, Yeboah began her international rise in 2019, winning gold at the African U20 Championships in Abidjan with 1.83m, followed by another gold at the All-African Games in Rabat. She has won the African Games high jump title twice (2019 and 2023). In 2023, she made history by claiming Ghana’s first-ever gold at the FISU World University Games in Chengdu, setting a national record of 1.94m
2024 marked her definitive entry into the world elite: she won the NCAA title with 1.97m (setting new national, NCAA, collegiate and personal records), qualifying for the Paris Olympics. She then secured two consecutive African Championship golds. She has been African high jump champion twice (2022 and 2024). In 2025, she wrote another historic chapter by becoming the first Ghanaian woman to reach the world high jump final at the World Championships in Tokyo, finishing ninth.
Known for her mental resilience and ability to shine at the biggest competitions, Yeboah represents an inspiration for African athletics and continues to raise the bar for continental high jump standards.
She set a new Ghanaian indoor high jump record of 1.92m at the 2025 New Mexico Collegiate Classic. She was honoured as the Sports Personality of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year at the 49th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards in 2025.
