Biography

Pedro Pablo Pichardo Peralta (born June 30, 1993, in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba) is a world-renowned triple jumper who initially represented Cuba before switching allegiance to Portugal in 2017. Rising to prominence early in his career, Pichardo claimed back-to-back silver medals at the 2013 and 2015 World Athletics Championships while competing for Cuba, showcasing his explosive technique and consistency.

Seeking new opportunities, he transitioned to represent Portugal in 2017, debuting internationally under their flag in 2019. Pichardo reached new heights with Portugal, securing Olympic gold at the Tokyo 2020 Games (held in 2021) with a leap of 17.98 meters. He further cemented his dominance by winning consecutive World Championship titles in 2022 (Eugene) and 2023 (Budapest), becoming a cornerstone of Portuguese athletics.
