Breyton Poole

Biography

Breyton Poole (born March 23, 2000) is a South African high jumper who defies athletic conventions with his 1.72-meter height.

At just 17 years old, he won the World U18 title in Nairobi in 2017 by clearing 2.24 meters, leaving the crowd astonished. His youth achievements also include bronze at the 2018 World U20 Championships and the 2019 African Games. His personal best stands at 2.25 meters.

Coached by Bennie Schlechder, Poole has developed a technique based on speed and explosiveness rather than height, drawing inspiration from Stefan Holm. Originally from Cape Town, he represents a source of inspiration for average-height athletes aspiring to compete at the highest level in high jump.
